Last weekend we spent an evening at Dick and Lorraine Vitale’s home as one of the many sponsors of the Annual Dick Vitale Intercollegiate Tennis Tournament in Sarasota, Florida. Over 100 top tennis college athletes from all over the world were in attendance. We participated because children’s charity work is something close to our heart.
Dick Vitale’s events and speaking appearances are most often to benefit children’s cancer research and inspire others to help; 100 percent of the proceeds from his own numerous book sales go to this cause. Dick Vitale gave such a heart-wrenching speech that it brought many of us to tears. He stated time and time and again, that “being a good ball player does not make you a good person. Ask yourself what you do for others, not what they do for you; teach our children to give.” Other topics included “face rejection and never give up,” bullying, and “just be good to all people.”
He has raised millions and given it for scientific research and has a goal to raise $2 million more by May 15th. When most people take it easy, he is speaking all over the world on this topic and the “game of life” as he calls it — at 75 years old. Amazing, inspiring couple.
